Dear Member

You and your guest(s) are invited to the Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s “Youthful Strokes of Exuberance I & II” concerts.

Four award-winning young conductors from Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan and Singapore will lead the SCO.

Under the baton of Moses Gay, Friday’s concert will commence with Festive Overture, a piece that portrays the playful memories of childhood. Local composer Phang Kok Jun’s Urban Rhythms will have its world premiere during the evening. This piece which reflects various aspects and angles of city life will feature SCO zhongruan associate principal Lo Chai Xia. Hailing from Hong Kong, Rupert Woo will conduct the orchestra to perform The Surging of Turbulent Clouds arranged by Peng Xiu Wen. This piece is adapted from an excerpt in the popular contemporary Peking Opera Mount Dujuan. For the finale, Rupert will conduct Chen Ning-chi’s The Legend of the Dragon. On Saturday, Pung Aik Khai from Malaysia will conduct SCO to perform Nocturnal Peace, a piece by Liu Tian Hua that encourages people to treasure precious moments. The composer was inspired by a joyous gathering with his friends and students. Liu Yuan’s Chinese Landscape: Fuchun Mountain Capriccio will be another highlight. The inspiration behind this was Huang Gong Wang’s painting which ranks among the top ten art masterpieces in Chinese cultural heritage. Combining ideas from Chinese and Western music, Ng Cheuk-yin’s The Seventh Month will enjoy its Singapore premiere at this concert. Under the baton of Wong Kah Chun, SCO yangqin musician Ma Huan will perform the lively Rhapsody by Wang Dan Hong, a song that’s infused with jazz elements.
