DBS CEO Tan Su Shan speaks at Singapore Press Club’s Eminent Speaker Series

Ms Tan Su Shan, CEO and Director of DBS Group, was guest speaker at the second instalment of the Singapore Press Club’s Eminent Speaker Series on Friday Sept 11. The event, presented by SPH Foundation, was titled “DBS: Banking on Asia’s Future”.

Ms Tan began with opening remarks where she outlined how Asia has a very strong hand, with five great cards: a demographic advantage and countries being great at different things and coming together, increasing trade, growing capital markets, rapid wealth creation and strong artificial intelligence adoption.

Asia, she said, has the potential not just to harness AI but to leapfrog other regions in how it uses technology. She also shared DBS’ ambition to be an AI-empowered bank with a heart, where the human factor was at the front and centre of innovation efforts.

Ms Tan also participated in an hour-long dialogue moderated by Singapore Press Club member Lee Su Shyan, associate editor at The Business Times. She fielded questions on the impact of ongoing global tensions, the impact of AI including its challenges and downsides, as well as the bank’s plans as it grows its focus on wealth management while remaining committed to serving the mass market. She also underlined DBS’s plans to remain firmly rooted in a growing Asia - and to be an Asian bank for Asians.

The session was attended by some 180 media industry professionals, including editors and journalists, and invited guests, at the SPH Media Auditorium at News Centre in Toa Payoh North.
