ABOUT US

Singapore Press Club, founded in 1971, has over the years established itself as an active networking organisation for those in the media industry.

Membership is broad-based. We have members from local and foreign professionals working in the print and broadcast media as well as public relations and other media-related sectors with their base in Singapore.

The club organises a variety of functions throughout the year. Members are kept informed of activities through e-mail circulars and our website: www.pressclub.org.sg

Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Club held regular social lunches and evening get-togethers at popular F&B outlets and hotels to enable members to keep in touch. The Club pivoted to online engagements amid the Covid restrictions and succeeded in keeping an active event calendar of Talks, Training and Social programmes such as food & beverage tasting, tours and trivia quiz nights.

When the Covid restrictions were lifted the Club resumed its in-person events.  The highly popular activities we continue to organise are the Monthly Networking Social Events/Makan Kakis as well as our Annual Press Ball, Annual Golf Classic and the Annual Goodwill Mission overseas. Recent goodwill missions have been to Romania, Kazakhstan, Iran and Estonia.

The late Dr Wee Kim Wee, who was Singapore’s fourth President for two terms from 1985 to 1993, was the Founder-member of the club. The Founding President of the Club was the former Editor-in-Chief of The Straits Times, the late Mr T. S. Khoo. The Club's second President was Mr Leslie Fong, formerly Senior Executive Vice President (Marketing) of Singapore Press Holdings and Editor of The Straits Times.

The third and current Club President is Mr Patrick Daniel, former Editor-in-Chief, English and Malay Newspapers Division, Singapore Press Holdings. Mr Daniel is the former interim CEO and currently director of SPH Media Trust.

On its 50th year in June 2021, the Club converted from a society to a company limited by guarantee and refreshed the logo.

The Club also launched a Singapore Press Club Awards in 2022 in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Club. The annual awards aim to recognise the excellent work and contributions of media professionals towards building a vibrant media industry in Singapore.

The affairs of the Club are managed by a management committee elected every two years at an annual general
meeting.
