The diplomats certainly know how to organise an exclusive golfing event and trounce the Press Club handsomely in the process! We were beaten 4-0 with four pairs of diplomats outplaying our golfers, led by club president Patrick Daniel.
We found out on arrival a the Laguna Masters Golf Course that it was specially opened only for our quarterly event. We had the whole golf course to ourselves Tues morning, with 4 flights in contention for the honours.
First flight to finish was Dicky Goh (Hindustan Times) & Rahul Pathak (Business Times) losing 2&1 to Amb Jose A. Ruiz (Panama) and Amb Marut Jitpatima (Thailand).
The second flight coming in with the same losing score was Edward Stanislaus (The Edge) and Paul Jacob (Straits Times), pipped by Amb Thomas Kupfer (Switzerland) and Richard Hou (Diplomats’ reserve)
The quarterly was decided when Patrick Daniel (SPH) and Amb Kesavapany (Singapore) reported a 4&2 loss to AmbYoichi Suzuki (Japan) and High Commissioner Dr Raghavan (India). The fourth flight with Melvinderpal Singh & Jacqueline Wu (both from The New Paper) also lost 2&1 to High Commissioner Phillip Green (Australia) & Honorary Consul Edward Liu (Cote D’iviore).
Another three lady members of our Golf League made up the 5th flight. When the scores were finally tallied and errors corrected our top 5 Golf League members at the event were
1- Patrick Daniel (35 points)
2- Dicky Goh (33 points)
2- Lim Chen Ming (33 points)
4- Melvinderpal Singh (32 points)
