PRIME MINISTER LAWRENCE WONG SPEAKS AT RELAUNCH OF SINGAPORE PRESS CLUB EMINENT SPEAKER SERIES

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong was the guest-of-honour at the relaunch of the Singapore Press Club’s Eminent Speaker Series on Monday June 8. The event, presented by SPH Foundation, was titled "Singapore at 61: What’s ahead?".

PM Wong began with brief opening remarks where he outlined what Singapore was doing to review its economic strategies amid a changing global order. He noted that Singapore was also becoming more diverse as a society, and while this is a source of strength, the country must continue to remain cohesive to move ahead in a more uncertain and fractured world.

Prime Minister Wong also participated in an hour-long dialogue moderated by Singapore Press Club Vice President Zakir Hussain, an associate editor at The Straits Times. He fielded various questions including on the impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict, the impact of AI on jobs, disinformation and the media’s role in countering it, the outlook for US-China relations as well as Singapore’s population and demographic challenges.

The session was widely covered by the media and attended by some 250 media industry professionals, including editors and journalists, and invited guests, at the SPH Media Auditorium at News Centre in Toa Payoh North.
