The Singapore Press Club is hoping to launch a film group for members who enjoy movies and would like to gauge the response we get.
Our first offering is local director Tan Pin Pin’s critically acclaimed new feature film, In Time To Come, which opens on Sept 28 at Filmgarde Bugis+.
The details of the Press Club screening of the film are as follows:

Cost: $9.50 per ticket.

In Time To Come is a documentary about the timeless aspects of Singapore life. It is centered on the opening and sealing of two time capsules.
What of Singapore is worth preserving? The documentary suggests some answers. The film observes rituals at schools and at work, shopping centres that empty and fill and a banyan tree being cut down and moved to an uncertain future. In doing so, Pin Pin’s film quietly asks: what makes us us?
Reviewer James Lattimer in Slant
Magazine (slantmagazine.com) called the film “eerily beautiful,” and wrote: “For those willing to pick out the key moments from the flow of hushed, well-framed, frequently mysterious images of today’s Singapore, a wealth of interesting ideas soon bubble to the surface.”
“Compelling and subtle,” wrote Carmine Grimaldi in Filmmaker Magazine (filmmakermagazine.com). “With each new layer, new possibilities emerge, with previous shots becoming charged with new meaning.”
The film premiered in April at Visions du Reel festival in Nyon, Switzerland and featured at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto and the Sheffield Doc/Fest in Britain.
“ It has been a film I wanted to make for a long time, and I can’t wait to share it,” said Pin Pin.

About the Director
Pin Pin previously directed To Singapore, with Love, her critically lauded 2013 documentary which won numerous awards and citations, including Best Director (Documentary) at the Dubai International Film Festival. In 2015, Tan contributed the short film Pineapple Town to the omnibus film 7 Letters, which garnered rave reviews when released in Singapore theaters. Tan also directed Invisible City (2007) and Singapore GaGa (2005) and a collection of shorts, including the Student Academy Award-winning Moving House (2001).
In Time To Come was made with the support of the Singapore Film Commission’s New Talent Feature Grant, awarded in 2013, a Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum Award and an Artist Residency at Nanyang Technological University’s Centre for Contemporary Art, Singapore.
