Join the Heritage Tour on Saturday, 2 October 2010 from 9 am – 1 pm
Registration for the “Can Survive Lah” heritage tour has been extended to this Friday 24 September. Only a few seats are available, so hurry if you are interested!
“Can survive lah!” is what old-timers involved in Singapore’s disappearing traditional trades like to say – somewhat ironically – when asked how business is going. These are the craftsmen involved in cottage industries that were once so prevalent along old Singapore’s five-foot-ways, but are increasingly hard to find in modern Singapore.
Join celebrated veteran heritage guide Geraldene Lowe-Ismail as she takes us from city streets into forgotten alleyways to visit:
* Giant temple joss-stick makers
* Funeral paper house makers
* Chinese opera costumes and musical instruments makers
* Traditional black-and-gold signboard makers, Chinese seal makers and Chinese fan calligrapher.
Date: Saturday, 2 October 2010
Time: 9am – 1pm
Meet at 8.50am at Dempsey bus park (next to durian stall)
Cost: $20 (member) / $28 (guest)
