On February 24, members of the Singapore Press Club joined Ambassadors of European Union member states in Singapore, Ukraine Ambassador to Singapore Kateryna Zelenko and EU Ambassador to Singapore Artis Bertulis, as well as the Singapore Film Society, at One Voice for Ukraine.
The event at GV Cineleisure was organised to mark four years of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, and featured a screening of the award-winning documentary Night Shift by Kyiv-based Singaporean journalist and filmmaker Megumi Lim.
Following the documentary screening, Megumi helmed a panel discussion on the film with Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Thomas Peter and Singapore Film Society chairman Kenneth Tan, moderated by Singapore Press Club vice-president Zakir Hussain.
Night Shift, a 29-minute film, documents how night shift workers in the city of Kharkiv go about their routine and cope with the risk of Russian attacks. The discussion saw a lively exchange between Megumi, panelists and audience members on what inspired the documentary, some of the deeply personal moments captured on film, the challenges of filming in a conflict zone as well as the lives and struggles of individuals featured as they go about their daily work.
