We held our 8th and last of the 2025 series of Singapore Press Club Embassy Night with the Estonian Embassy in Singapore.
It was such a wonderful evening conversation with Ambassador Mr. Veikko Kala, who had only been in Singapore for 2 months since August. The discussion was moderated by Nyima Pratten, Senior Producer, Reuters who is also a member of the Club's management committee.
There was an hour of discussions about border and country security issues and about NATO, the country's focus on Tech and digitisation and not surprisingly, many similiarities of focus and concerns for a small nation like Singapore.
Some members of the Singapore Press Club at the talk recalled about a 2012 visit to Estonia for the Club's Goodwill Mission and planting of trees (something Singapore has been doing for many years to green and maintain a sustainable garden-city living environment as the city-state had to build up to house our citizen and business spaces as a developing nation). The planting of the trees was a symbolic way to share our Singapore's best wishes for the growth of Estonia. Anyway, we were curious how big the trees are now. Ambassador said he'll check
The Estonian Business Hub is very impressive. A nice LED screen backdrop and space is comfortable for a cosy event like ours with plenty of seats and space for networking and engagement over a nice buffet.
Ambassador Veikko was very impressed with Singapore's food scene, he wondered how much can we eat, with such variety and so many food outlets everywhere. Well that is another conversation for another day.
Thank you to Ambassador Veikko Kala, Deputy Head of Mission Ms Siisi Saetalu and Manager, Estonian Business Hub Ms Johanna-Riinu Annuk for hosting our Singapore Press Club members and guests at the event. We totally enjoyed ourselves. Look forward to more collaborations in the future.
