Singapore Press Club celebrates 50th Anniversary at Press Ball on 10 June 2022 and announced inaugural Journalism Award Winners and 50 inductees to the Singapore Media Industry Hall of Fame.
Singapore, 10 June 2022 – Five winners of the inaugural Singapore Press Club Awards 2022 were announced at the Club’s 50th Anniversary Press Ball. They received their awards from Guest of Honour Josephine Teo, Minister for Communications and Information.
Launched in commemoration of the Club’s 50th anniversary, the inaugural awards aim to recognise journalists and other media-related professionals who have excelled in their craft and made impact in their work.
Supported by presenting sponsor Citibank, the first set of awards – the Rising Stars Awards – aim to recognise outstanding young journalists below the age of 35. The Club also presented the inaugural Sustainability Journalism Award, supported by title sponsor City Developments Limited.
Each winner received a customised crystal trophy, certifcate and staycation voucher sponsored by Millennium Hotels & Resorts.
In addition, to mark its 50th year, the Club unveiled a Singapore Media Industry Hall of Fame honouring 50 individuals from the media and media-related professions for their lasting and valuable contributions over long careers in the industry. They include 14 pioneers who were inducted posthumously. The list of Hall of Fame inductees is also listed below. Going forward, the Club will induct more deserving veterans every year.

RISING STARS - YOUNG JOURNALIST AWARD 2022
The Young Journalist Award recognises journalists for their excellent storytelling and impactful journalism which has resulted in promoting profound change.
Two winners were presented the 2022 Awards.
Nabilah Awang, Journalist, TODAY
Passionate about social causes, TODAY journalist Nabilah Awang strives to give voice to underrepresented and unseen minority communities in Singapore. A tenacious journalist who goes the extra mile to connect with her sources, Nabilah has shed light on complex topics such as child abuse, gender equality, as well as race and religion. As a health and community reporter, she has written extensively about the plight of healthcare workers, caregivers and migrant workers.
Recent works of Nabilah include: The Big Read: As S’pore society ages, who will care for the caregivers?, The Big Read: Amid rising child abuse cases, the community needs to step up and be ‘busybodies’, With no place to stay, some Malaysian workers sleeping rough near Kranji MRT Station
Kelly Ng, Correspondent, The Business Times
Kelly Ng covers banking, finance, fintech and sustainability for The Business Times. Ever the versatile correspondent, her stories often confront hard-hitting issues, from the risks and ethics surrounding non-fungible tokens to how the pandemic has widened Singapore’s income chasm. She has embraced new storytelling methods and has a slew of videos and infographics under her belt. Kelly also co-produced two documentaries, one of which, Curtain Up! premiered at various festivals across North America.

RISING STARS - YOUNG DIGITAL JOURNALIST AWARD
Winners of the Young Digital Journalist Awards are recognised for their excellence in storytelling on digital platforms that created exemplary user experience.
Two winners were presented the 2022 Awards.
Rebecca Pazos, Data Visualisation Editor, The Straits Times
Rebecca Pazos, Data Visualisation Editor at The Straits Times, has received multiple awards for her excellent digital work, including a Silver medal at the Society of News Design's Best of Digital Design for her outstanding portfolio of work. Rebecca is dedicated to telling compassionate, human-centred data stories.

Chai You Xia, Senior Journalist, 8World News, Mediacorp
As a digital journalist, Chai You Xia challenges herself with new ways of presenting and producing compelling stories on digital platforms. Her videos have made a strong impact as her story-telling is both heart-warming and thought-provoking. What's more, with her bilingual reporting skills, You Xia is a role model for new journalists. She is also passionate about women’s issues and mental health.

CDL-SINGAPORE PRESS CLUB SUSTAINABILITY JOURNALISM AWARD
This award recognises excellent sustainability journalism that has had a positive impact on public attitudes, behaviours and policies, that further the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The 2022 Award is kindly supported by Title Sponsor City Development Limited (CDL).
Audrey Tan, Assistant News Editor and Science and Environment Correspondent, The Straits Times
Audrey Tan’s tireless coverage of sustainability at The Straits Times over a nine-year career has led to reforms in the environmental impact assessment frameworks in Singapore. Her pieces on climate change, biodiversity conservation and carbon markets have been consistently tenacious. She has also embraced new channels, specifically her environmental podcast “Green Pulse”, and a series of climate change cartoons in the lead up to COP26.
