About the Artists

Vincent van Gogh – A New Way of Seeing

One of the most well-known Post-Impressionist artists, self-taught Van Gogh developed his own style of painting, exploring ways of expressing emotions through loaded brushstrokes and vivid colours, while concentrating on themes of profound symbolism. This lecture will survey the remarkable journey of this truly original master.

The film Vincent van Gogh, a new way of seeing provides viewers with the moving and inspiring experience of seeing Vincent’s iconic masterpieces close-up on the screen and presents new insights and interpretations by specially-invited guests including V. Willem van Gogh, great grandson of Theo van Gogh, and contemporary artist Lachlan Goudie.

Cézanne – Portraits of a Life

Widely acknowledged for bridging the late years of Impressionism and the early years of Post Impressionism, Cézanne’s distinctive style of building form with colour and his analytical approach to nature influenced Cubism, Fauvism and successive generations of avant-garde artists. This session will trace the life and work of “the father of us all” as described b- Picasso and Matisse.

The movie Cézanne – Portraits of a Life offers an unprecedented level of insight into a “once in a lifetime” major exhibition featuring interviews with curators, art experts and the artist’s great grandson Philippe Cézanne. The film also travels to Cézanne’s home and studio in Provence shedding new light on the life and work of this hugely influential artist.
