Dear Members

The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) is extending an invitation to Press Club members to attend this year’s Publish Asia conference in Bali, 25-26 April, with pre-conference workshops taking place on 24th.

Besides journalism-themed sessions like Safeguarding Truth, Trust and Journalist Safety in News and Journalism That Makes a Difference, this year’s Publish Asia takes a more business-focused slant, with a hard look at reinventing news business models and finding new revenue streams.

For the first time at Publish Asia, Google, Facebook and Twitter are coming to speak and they will be sharing their plans for publishers, including various subscription features and partnerships. Google will be sending a team to talk details about the US$300M Google News Initiative announced 3 weeks ago. Facebook will be elaborating on its Facebook Journalism Project features, including cultivating Facebook Groups and Communities, call-to-action subscriptions button, Trusted Publishers feature, improved Insights, ranking changes and roll-out plans for APAC – most of which are not apparent to the casual social media user. Twitter has entered into several broadcasting tie-ups on a revenue share basis with media companies. There are also sessions on business transformation, trust in advertising, branded content, brand activation, audience engagement using AI and Smart Data and products to engage Gen X to Z. Details are on the conference website:www.publishasia.com.

Kicking off each day will be presentations by C-level executives of major regional media: South China Morning Post, The Hindu, Kompas Gramedia, New Straits Times Press, Singapore Press Holdings and Khaleej Times. They will share on how they’ve been evolving and transforming their outlook, business and content strategies and organisational culture amid the turbulence of digital disruption.

If you’re a member of the Singapore Press Club, there’s a generous 15% discount off the WAN-IFRA non-member price of SGD1,980 = SGD1,683, which includes 2 days of conference programming and entry into the Asian Media Awards Ceremony and Welcome Dinner at Bali TV. The same discount code can be applied to the full-day workshops on Digital Platform Strategy for News Publishers and Collaborative Investigative Journalism on 24 April.
